White Board Animation

The Dos and Don’ts of Whiteboard Animation Videos

You are looking for a fresh and creative way to engage your audience, whether that means your staff or your customers. Whiteboard animation videos are growing rapidly in popularity, making it more likely that your company will want to create these types of videos.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of content creators out there who haven’t yet mastered the art of this unique video style. Before you put out your own video, here is a comprehensive list of things you will want to do and things to avoid.

Do Present a Clear Message

If you are just getting started with animated videos, it can be tempting to create one large and comprehensive video that tackles all of your issues at once. This is generally not advised because shorter videos perform better. Instead of including everything and the kitchen sink, try to stick to just one clear and focused message per video.

Select the most important and pressing issue at the start. You can always create more than one video to cover multiple topics. If you have several topics that could be broken down into shorter videos, you could even create a series that will keep viewers engaged with your brand longer.

Don’t Make It Too Long

On a related note, you also want to make sure that you aren’t making the video longer than it should be. Whiteboard animation videos are good for mid-length videos that are longer than 60 seconds but less than two to three minutes. If your video requires more time or less time than this, consider a different format.

You have to give the artist enough time to render the depictions and manage the voiceover. In addition, you want to ensure that your audience has enough time to thoroughly comprehend and understand what you are trying to present to them. Don’t rush, but don’t drag out your video any longer than it needs to be.

Do Make It Black and White

Take a minute to picture what you want your whiteboard animation videos to look like. Do you envision them with a classic black and white scheme, or do you see a huge splash of color scrolling across the screen? When it comes to whiteboard animation, it is best to stick with a simple black ink on a white background.

This can simplify your images and complement your content. You don’t want to get too caught up in the design and colors, or you may be better suited to creating a fully animated video.

Don’t Veer from the Script

Before you start making your video, you need a clear idea of what you want to say to the audience in your voiceover. This oftentimes means that you should write out a script of exactly what you want to say to go with the drawings that your artist will put together for you. Do not veer from the script, even if something else sparks your interest.

Tangents and rambling side messages cause your audience to lose interest in the topic at hand and make it less likely that they will retain information from your video.

Do Include a Call to Action

While whiteboard animation videos can be a great way to explain complex topics to your staff or your customers, never miss an opportunity for someone to take action. The end of any type of video that you use in your marketing should include a clear call to action.

It doesn’t necessarily mean that they have to buy something from you. It could be as simple as:

  • Signing up for a company newsletter
  • Handing over their email address for a special promotion
  • Researching a product further
  • Setting up an appointment for a consultation

No matter what action you specifically want viewers to take, you need to clearly outline it for them before the end of your video. This erases all questions from their minds about what they need to do next if they want to keep engaging with you, your brand, your goods, or your services.
